Editorial Standards and Corrections

Last updated Oct 9, 2026

We write with attitude. We report with care. Here's how.

Sourcing and verification

  • Every factual claim in an original story (scores, stats, quotes, injuries, transactions) is checked against at least two credible sources, such as official team and league sites, the Associated Press and established news outlets.
  • Quotes are never invented. We only use quotes that were published by a credible outlet or said on the record, and we name where they came from.
  • We do not publish unverified rumors as fact. Social media posts are not treated as confirmation on their own.
  • Time-sensitive details (injuries, odds, lineups) include a "Last updated" time in Pacific Time.

Crediting other reporters

When we build on someone else's reporting, we credit the outlet and, when available, the reporter by name in the story, and we list every source with a link at the bottom of the article. Scores and headlines from public feeds are labeled and link back to the original source.

Opinion vs. news

Our voice is loud, but we keep news and opinion separate. Opinion and analysis are labeled clearly in the story (look for "Our take (opinion)"). Predictions and fantasy advice are opinion and are for entertainment, with no guarantees.

Independence

Advertisers and affiliate partners never influence our coverage, rankings or picks. See our Affiliate Disclosure.

Bylines

Stories are published under the Illegal Motion Sports Staff byline. Our fantasy rankings are generated by our own model, which is explained in full in How our rankings work.

Corrections

Mistakes happen. When they do, we fix them fast and say so.

  • Factual errors are corrected as soon as they're confirmed, and a correction note with the date is added to the bottom of the story.
  • Small fixes (typos, formatting) may be made without a note.
  • To report an error, use our contact form and choose "Correction." Please include the article link.
