Sports should be fun. Our picks, rankings and odds information are for entertainment only, with no guarantees. Nobody wins every week, including us.
Know the age and the law
- Sports betting is legal only in certain U.S. states, and the minimum age is 21+ in most states (a few allow 18+).
- Paid fantasy contests are generally 18+, but some states require you to be 19+ or 21+, and some states restrict them.
- California: online sports betting is not legal in California. Check your state's laws before playing anything for money.
Illegal Motion Sports does not take bets and does not run paid contests.
Play smart
- Set a budget before you start, and never chase losses
- Never bet or play with money you need for bills, rent or essentials
- Set time limits and take breaks
- Don't play when you're upset, stressed or drinking
- Treat it as entertainment, not a way to make money
Warning signs
Gambling may be a problem if you are spending more than you can afford, hiding it from people you love, borrowing money to play, chasing losses or feeling anxious when you are not playing.

Tools that help
Most licensed sportsbooks and fantasy apps let you set deposit limits, time limits and self-exclusion. Many states also run self-exclusion programs. Use them.
