Week 6 Injury Watch: Lamb's Quad, Penix's Ribs, Montgomery's Groin — and the Fallout
Rapoport says Lamb's quad bruise isn't believed serious — but Week 6 isn't guaranteed. Penix might play if he practices. Montgomery is week-to-week, and Marks leads in London.

Tuesday morning, and the Week 6 injury board already decides half your lineup.
Three names lead the watch: CeeDee Lamb (quad), Michael Penix Jr. (ribs) and David Montgomery (groin). Around them: season-enders, multi-week outs, and a couple of trending-up returns. Statuses below are stamped to Tuesday morning PT.
Injury / IR / roster statuses as of ~9:55 AM PT, Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026.
CeeDee Lamb (quad bruise) — monitor practice
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Lamb is dealing with a quad bruise that is "not believed to be serious" and not expected to be long-term, per NBC Sports and Yahoo Sports/Forbes.
Week 6 at Green Bay (SNF) is not guaranteed. Dallas has extra rest after Thursday Night Football, but practice this week is the tell. If he sits, George Pickens gets top-5 WR upside with the target share. Pickens is a must-start either way.
Fantasy move: lock a contingency (Pickens is already that contingency). Don't drop Lamb.
Michael Penix Jr. (ribs) — might play if he practices
Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter the rib injury "is not considered serious," and Penix "might be able to return" vs. Chicago — but Atlanta wants to see him practice first. Coach Kevin Stefanski said he'd have a clearer answer by Wednesday, per the AP and AJC.
If Penix sits, Tua Tagovailoa figures to start. Bijan Robinson and Drake London stay must-starts either way. Kyle Pitts slides toward fringe TE1 / streamer territory behind Tua.
Penix himself said he expects to be ready — "I've sat out enough my career" — via the Falcons' site. Hope isn't a designation. Watch Wednesday's report.
David Montgomery (groin) — week-to-week; Marks leads
Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said Monday: "right now, we're looking at a week-to-week injury there" with the groin, per CBS Sports, Yahoo Sports and Texans Wire.
Montgomery left Sunday's win over Tennessee in the first half. Woody Marks stepped in for 15 carries, 62 yards and four catches (23 yards) and will "carry the load," per Ryans. Houston is in London vs. Jacksonville (Jaguars are the home team at Wembley).
Fantasy move: Marks is a volume play with a tough matchup — JAX allows the fewest RB fantasy points. Start him if you need the touches; temper the ceiling.
Achane is done. Gordon is the lead back — and Miami is on bye
De'Von Achane tore his ACL in Week 3 vs. Kansas City, was placed on IR, and is out for the 2026 season, per NFL.com and the AP. Do not stash him as a Week 6 hope. He is not playing.
Ollie Gordon II has taken over as Miami's lead back. The catch for this week: the Dolphins are on bye in Week 6, so Gordon sits too. His rest-of-season case starts Week 7 at the Jets.
RB room elsewhere
- TreVeyon Henderson (NE, high ankle): Out multiple weeks, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. No surgery expected. Rhamondre Stevenson leads vs. the Jets — must-start if he isn't already.
- Quinshon Judkins (CLE, ankle): Coach Todd Monken called it a "tweak"; day-to-day, per ESPN via Yahoo Sports/Forbes. Hard to trust even if active vs. Baltimore. Cleveland also signed Audric Estime off Minnesota's practice squad.
- Will Shipley (PHI, foot): Partial plantar fascia tear; could miss multiple weeks, per Schefter. Tank Bigsby is on IR. If Barkley also sits, Philly is down to practice-squad options like Dameon Pierce.
- Saquon Barkley + DeVonta Smith (PHI, hamstrings): NFL Network's Mike Garafolo: indications are one, if not both, have a shot to return vs. Carolina — practice week decides. Trending up.
Around the league
- Deebo Samuel (SF, hamstring): "At least a couple of weeks," per Kyle Shanahan. Week 9 looks like the earliest realistic return. Out.
- Steelers WRs: Michael Pittman Jr. on IR (foot); Roman Wilson out Week 6 (finger); Ben Skowronek also out (calf), per Yahoo Sports/Forbes. Rookie Germie Bernard is the waiver buzz after 6-80 in Week 5. Pat Freiermuth and Jaylen Warren stay busy.
- Concussions: KC Concepcion (CLE), Kenyon Sadiq (NYJ), T.J. Hockenson (MIN). No guarantee Concepcion or Sadiq clear for Week 6. Hockenson's Vikings are on bye — extra week in protocol.
- Lamar Jackson (BAL, ankle): Rapoport: Ravens have "some hope" he plays at Cleveland. Hopeful, not locked.
- A.J. Brown (NE, ankle): Mike Vrabel: "there's a chance" he begins practice this week. Watch — not a start until he's actually practicing and designated.
Our take (opinion): The three headlines are Lamb (probable but not locked), Penix (practice-dependent), and Montgomery (sit him; start Marks for volume). Achane is a dynasty/IR stash only — Gordon is the Miami back to roster, and you already knew that before the bye. Clear a bench spot for Bernard if Pittman's IR opened the door in Pittsburgh, and don't force Judkins or Shipley into lineups on vibes.
